Dear Supporters,
In my last note I shared that my home Church designated funds to assist with the local outreach begun during this COVID-19 pandemic. A Little Help went into overdrive for a few days with purchases and deliveries and since my last report we have made provisions for at least 50 additional individuals and families.
On Saturday, May 9th we delivered cooked meals to 25 elders and individuals in need across the City. The meal included a rotisserie chicken, baked potato, green beans, rolls, bottles of water, fruit, a pack of cookies, a single red rose and various household goods. My mother even made an order of fish for an elder who does not eat chicken.
As rewarding as it was, the real blessing came on Mother’s Day. My mother had been on the phone encouraging (bemoaning) her siblings in Georgia to take flowers to the grave site of my Grandmother, who passed a few years ago. Then she reminded me of my promise to take a young woman in our congregation to her mom’s grave site in New Jersey. I called and the 20-year-old was excited. We drove to Butler, New Jersey and I had the opportunity to engage in a different type of graveyard ministry–one that included passing down the tradition of caretaker. We pulled up weeds, brushed away debris and cleaned the area. When we left I exclaimed “now that grave looks like someone cares” to which the young lady displayed a huge smile.
What an honor it is to have the opportunity to slow down. I am experiencing what the “Day By Day” songwriter dubbed “seeing more clearly, loving more dearly and following more nearly.” I feel connected to the Creator and creation in a different way. I don’t know what I would be doing if we were not fighting a pandemic, but I feel like it would just be more “busy work” and less time appreciating the opportunities that God presents to show a little kindness.
I appreciate the kindness and support you have shown. Thank you for journeying with me.
In gratitude,
Cynthia
